Christine A. Allan is originally from the prairie province of Manitoba, moved to the West Coast of Canada in the 60’s and has lived in a number of small communities in British Columbia, including a remote Native Community on the West Coast of Canada. Here she had the privilege of learning the basics of First Nations art with Nuu-chah-nulth artist and teacher George John.
Christine received an Award of Excellence at the London Biennale in Chelsea 2019, for her environmental pieces that are designed to bring awareness to the need to stop using plastics that are polluting our oceans. This series of work is created on wood using handmade pigments made from plant and mineral materials and then wood-burned.

My colourfield work is created in layers with various media and sometimes the addition of Swarovski crystal elements or unrecyclable plastic. 

I am intrigued by the idea of how art can overcome the incommunicable aspects of our lives, but I am also interested in perspectives and the viewer’s reaction to my art. I like to know what they see, what their emotional response is, what their perspective is. We all look at things differently and finding common ground is the only way to make our way forward in communication. 
I work with various materials, processes, and subjects, and within the creative process, my work emerges. I see connections in all aspects of life and attempt to represent them in various forms. They represent the connection of all living things on the planet and in the universe. 
I donate 10% of all sales of my work to Plastic Oceans.
