Benjamin is a Painter based in Montreal, Canada. Living in many countries and being an Architect have been two major influences in the development of his artistic practice. He completed an MFA degree at the Glasgow School of Art in 2012.

My recent paintings reflect a playfulness that I currently enjoy in my practice. Over the past 15 years I have developed a gaze in my work that creates a sense of detached observation treating a wide variety of subjects with a critical view that can oscillate between being warm or cold, comedic or serious, optimistic or somewhat dark. Through my artwork I explore the variables influencing our perception of the world. 
Painting primarily with oil on canvas, I create images composed of strong, colourful geometric shapes which reframe the subject and transform its qualities. Personal photographs, sketches and found images are used as starting points. Though I am drawn to a particular image and subject, any associated meaning maybe subverted during the process of making the painting. The work is a new story. Something unpleasant may become joyful. The serene rendered chaotic. The dramatic revived as comedy.
