Biography

My name is Corry Gehring, I was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and have made my home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where I work as an Educational Assistant by day and create art by night.  I graduated high school with an Honours in Art however, I am primarily self-taught.

For the year 2021, I was awarded a certificate of artistic merit by The Luxembourg Art Prize commission and The Pinacothèque Museum in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Artistic approach

I am interested in escapism and what lies in the subconscious so I create places that I see in my dreams.  I am also concerned with inner conflict and feelings of being lost, alone and defeated.  I use mountains, tunnels, dark caves, expansive skies, deep oceans, ambiguous shapes and textures to create confusion, mystery and enormity.  These elements also give my small artworks the feeling of vastness and depth.  The colours I choose are inspired...Read more
