This series, created during Covid-19 lockdown, addresses issues of connection and community during this difficult time. The model for these works was posing for our group of figurative artists via Zoom conferencing. While unconventional, it allowed us to continue our artistic practice despite our distance and isolation. I purposely used colours full of vitality, applied thickly with a palette knife, to add to the tactile, accessible qualities of the image. I contrasted this with rectangles added along the edge. These glowing rectangles both evoke the screens of the other artists on the call, and also work to reinforce the picture plane.l which divides us.
