Art is a means of self-expression through an amalgamation of visual components. In a painting, every color, every brushstroke and every fault carries itself independently from the painting,but when combined creates a timeline of creation process between the artist and canvas, and a story to be interpreted and reinterpreted as the audience desires. A painting is a documentation of a moment in the artist’s life, and a series of paintings are the artist’s autobiography. My autobiography is ever-changing and ever-growing as my immediate environment is, as the people around me are, as my ideas are. Although my paintings may seem like they are all about me and my life, they are in fact not. As the viewers intently peer at my paintings they may suddenly find themselves lifted from the ground and placed on the same pedestal as my painting. They find themselves with a sense of comfort and familiarity looking at this creation that was manifested by a complete stranger, an artist that they have no connections to. The intent behind this artist’s paintings doesn’t seem so alien anymore. A connection between artist and viewer has been established, along with viewer to viewer as well. At this stage, the viewers have found an association between their lives and experiences, and the art piece that was birthed from my life and experiences. My art has unified these people by placing them on equal playing fields. And through this unity can one truly appreciate not only the art, but the artist as well, for our lives are not so very different from each other’s. My paintings tell the story of my life and everyone’s lives as well, for humans are naturally narcissistic but sympathetic creatures. We always find ways to turn a painting into a mirror to better comprehend it and connect with it on a spiritual level.
