Dorthe Eisenhardt has been painting all her life, has shown her work consistently in solo-, juried- and group shows since 1988 and has won several awards. She studied intensively at Emily Carr College of Art and Design from 1988 till 1995 and has taken numerous courses and workshops. Born and raised in Denmark, she came to Canada in 1967 and passed the Canadian exam for foreign trained physiotherapists at UBC in 1969. Until 2001 she worked as a physiotherapist in several of the Lower Mainland’s major hospitals while painting and raising her three children. She lives in British Columbia and has been painting full time since 2001.

My abstract paintings are a way of expressing deeply felt experiences through the exploration of colour, light and structure.
I grew up surrounded by a deciduous forest with the freedom to roam and explore at will and through my paintings I hope to convey some of what I feel and see in my surroundings. My process is completely intuitive and spontaneous without prior planning and consists of many layers until the painting reveals itself in it’s final form.
