Andromeda, in Greek mythology, was the beautiful daughter of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiope of Joppa in Palestine. Cassiope offended the Nereids by boasting that Andromeda was more beautiful than they, so in revenge Poseidon sent a sea monster to devastate Cepheus' kingdom.
