Juan Ranieri was born in 1969 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied architecture in  the University of Buenos Aires. In parallel  to his work as an architect, he  started  painting, transforming  his  architectural, urbanistic, political and social concerns into pieces of art. Over time, by using varied techniques and  mixed  media, he  developed  a  distinct  artistic language.  Ranieri has received many important fine art awards in  competitions and salons, including the Argentine National Drawing Salon, Museo Quinquela  Martin, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de  Buenos Aires, Windsor  &  Newton “A Calendar for  2000,  London”, and   the  Annual  Drawing  Discourse ,  Asheville  UNC,  among numerous others. He has also participated in several international art fairs hosted in Argentina and  the  United States, including  Art  Miami, Pinta, Arteamericas, Houston Art Fair, San Diego Art Fair, The Other Art Fair by Saatchi, among others. His works have been integrated into important corporative, museum and private collections, primarily Argentine, such as those of the  Quinquela Martin Museum of Fine  Arts,  Merrill  Lynch  Group,  Telecom  Argentina ,  McDonald’s ,  BASF,  Fortabat  Collection,  Bunge  Argentina  Collection, The  Argentine  Business University  UADE, and  Gador Laboratories, among  others. Since  2020, the  artist resides in Miami, Florida. 

 

I am an Artist but my formal educational training is as an Architect, therefore, my artwork has been always inspired in architecture and urbanism, and the  relation of these to social aesthetics and ethics along the continuum of history.                                                                                          
In recent years, I have been impressed  by the  natural enviroment of  Miami, especially  by the dynamically  changing behavior of Its atmospheric skyline.  Its  horizon is marked by sudden storms, stark black or incredibly white clouds that can evaporate in an instant… everything is enver-evolving and enveloped by  the impacting colors of nature. 
With respect to techniques, I enjoy moving from geometric and sharp-like graphite media to gestural and amorphous ones like acrylic and elastomeric putty, but both these hard and  gestural worlds always have  a unifying connection ultimately. I like to experiment with different media in order to find new languages and new ways to communicate my ideas. 
My major influences have been more from Architects than artists: Le Corbusier Tadao Ando, Clorindo Testa,  Etienne  Louis  Boullee and  many others.I believe I’m an artist because I have loved to build and construct ever since I was a child and the best way or maybe the onl way to explain a design is through sketches, drawings, plans, i mean through visual expression.
