In 2014 I recieved my Bachelor in Fine Arts at Concordia University. I then moved to the Maritimes and started a family, I am currently living in Bathurst, New Brunswick. Between working a full time job and taking care of my 3 year old I find some time to be creative and express myself through art.

In 2014 I recieved my Bachelor in Fine Arts at Concordia University. I then moved to the Maritimes and started a family, I am currently living in Bathurst, New Brunswick. Between working a full time job and taking care of my 3 year old I find some time to be creative and express myself through art.

My artwork has two very different styles, the one style is fine art using graphite on paper, the other style is fibre art, mixing different fabrics together to make a collage. The reasons my two styles are very different is based on my daily life, I wake up and get ready for work and help my child get ready for the day, I bring him to daycare then go to work. After work I go back to daycare bring my child home, prepare supper with my husband have some family time then go to bed. I have two different lives, the one is work and the other is family, therefore I have two very different styles of artwork. My drawings express my environment at work and my collages in fabric deal with motherhood.
My drawings represent my environment at work; I work with anatomy of the body and the well-being of people mentally. I hope through my drawings people will remember and realize that it’s important to take care of their mental and physical health, the choices they make today on how to live will impact not just themselves but the people around them. I chose to draw in pencil because it is black or white, healthy or not healthy.
My collages in fabric are inspired by my mother and my role being as a mom, it came to me when I was on maternity leave and my son was 3 months old, I was ripping up old sheets to use as rags. It reminded me of my mom and how well she took care of me and my siblings, she used to make clothing for use kids and weave these beautiful wall hangings from her weaving loom. I decided to started mixing fabric that I had around the house and would piece them together to make collages, for me they represent the fabric needed to take care of a child and a house, wrapping the child in a blanket to keep warm, dressing him, his favorite teddy, cleaning the house, drying dishes, laundry and making the bed.
Our work life and home life demand two different things from us, but we are only one person, that’s why I want to present to you my two styles of artwork.
