Romain Berger is a queer photographer from the French scene, born at the end of the 80s in Normandy.

With a background in film and theatre, he has long been fascinated by images, popular culture, stereotypes and gender issues.

In recent years, he has had several articles and interviews in magazines in France (including Garçon magazine, Jock life, L'oeil de la photographie...) and internationally (including The Advocate, Männer, Star Observer...). He also had an interview with an Australian radio station in November 2021 and an English publisher will publish a book on his work entitled "Life's a cabaret" in September 2022.

In July and August 2021, several of his creations were exhibited at the SUM gallery in Vancouver during the Queer Art Show, the Bowie gallery in Switzerland is currently exhibiting his work, he had an exhibition in France in June for Pride month and an exhibition has just finished in Barcelona.

Giving visibility to the LGBTQ+ community is what he cares about most.

I create artistic works that are offbeat, kitschy, colourful and gently provocative. I claim to be a camp artist, a concept that designates, among other things, a form of self-mockery that allows gay men to laugh at the difficulties of their condition in a homophobic society, all with artifice and exaggeration.
 
That's why, voluntarily, I take the clichés of gay culture that I divert in order to put our world in the spotlight, as much in its best as in its worst (loneliness, superficiality, overconsumption, violence, addiction, sex, politics ...)
My characters are marginalized, excluded or singled out (gay, women, trans-gender, drag-queen...) who, for a single shot, become heroes/fighters. They are looking for a way out, they want to be stars.

Moreover, I work a lot on weariness and the body. The body is everywhere on social networks and in magazines, it becomes, for many, an addiction to the race for perfection and this allows me, in my photographs, to gently sexualise the bodies of men. 
Sensuality is present in each of my pictures, I like to fantasize the world, to put the finger on what disturbs and especially, I want to make people dream. A shared voyeurism.

It was important for me to keep the magic in my stagings, to trivialise homosexuality and affirm my identity, while bringing strong messages, without falling into pathos or melodrama with dull colours.
