IInspired by the wide ranging sounds of 20th Jazz music this series of paintings reflect sub genres of Jazz and highlight their particular qualities shown through the rich three dimensionality of the canvas' texture and colour. Created during a particularly long and hot Toronto summer I painted this piece while listening to a playlist of the top Cool Jazz records created after WW2. Artists that inspired the work include but are not limited to; Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Modern Jazz Quartet, Dave Brubeck, Stan Getz and Thelonious Monk. I hope that the viewer will feel engrossed in the artwork and experience the dynamic sounds of this art form expressed through colour, tone, texture, form, line and tone.
